Initialization
The start of the project was slightly delayed, until an Interim Project Manager (me) was appointed while the Project Manager (James) finishes his excellent work on the ViDaaS project.
Thanks to the generous help of colleagues on the project and beyond, I’m now up to speed, and the initialization stage of the project is drawing to a close.

Outreach
James attended the JISC MRD launch meeting at the NCL Conference Centre, Nottingham, where he presented a project poster (PDF), as well as an update on the work of ViDaaS, whose DaaS (Database as a Service) will feed into the DaMaRO project. James blogged about the meeting

Metadata
Alexander Huber, our Metadata Specialist, has reported on metadata standards for description and discovery of research data, blogged about here. His report includes a review of the conformity and compatibility of our proposed project standards with those used in other Higher Education Institutions in the UK.
Alexander has established the fields to be used by DataFinder (the software tool DaMaRO will create for location, citation and retrieval of research data), ensuring they match DataCite elements, and may be published as open linked data using the DataCite2RDF (DOC) mapping undertaken as part of the JISC Open Citations Project. As well as being essential to the development of our software, Alexander’s report will inform training and education to promote the DataCite metadata kernel across the University as the standard for data storage and citation.
